Sin City has an infinite number of laid-back watering holes to get your drink on, but it also has plenty of upscale spots where you can dress fancy and drink even fancier. These spots, which are classified into the entertainment category “Lounge” or “Ultra Lounge,” are venues with more visually impressive interior design and decor that attract more well-dressed clientele starting later in the evenings. Like their nightclub siblings, lounges in Las Vegas emphasize music, alcohol consumption, and sexy people-watching. However, there are a few key differences between the lounges and the more well-known nightclubs of Sin City.

What is the difference between a Lounge and Nightclub?

Size. Lounges are smaller venues than nightclubs, with layouts typically half the size (or less) of the square footages of nightclubs.
Dance Floor. Lounges typically do not have dedicated dance floors like nightclubs do. Unlike a regular bar, however, you’ll often find a good amount of people at any lounge dancing to the music – either standing in place, at their seats, or within the lounge’s smaller open spaces that aren’t dance floors but can become de facto gathering places for drunk strangers to rock out to the music together.
Drink Menu. Lounges offer libations of all price points but usually emphasize higher-end craft cocktails and mixology; nightclubs carry more standard drink options and focus on pulsating music and light shows / pyrotechnics.
Seating Availability. Lounges often accommodate groups with seating at a reasonable price point, or merely require the opening of a credit card tab with no minimum spend in exchange for seats. Nightclubs only offer seating if a client reserves a pricy VIP section requiring a one or more bottle minimum.
Dining Availability. Lounges frequently offer eating options, sometimes a full dinner menu but more often a limited set of appetizers that complement their drink menu or overall theme. Nightclubs rarely offer any eating options, as their core focus is on drinking and dancing. (That being said, a handful of nightclubs do offer munchies like fruit plates or french fries as tableside options for VIP clients, and many lounge and clubs even allow pizzas and other resort restaurant offerings to be ordered and delivered late-night to high-spending tables. OK – so what’s the difference between a Lounge and an Ultra Lounge?

All up and down the Las Vegas Boulevard stretch, various lounges and ultra lounges offer up libations of the common and obscure variety to entertain the strip’s 42 million annual visitors. How are the two categories different?

Vibe. The distinction between the “Lounge” and “Ultra Lounge” categories is a subjective one truth be told, but most nightlife industry insiders agree it is related to the vibe that the management of a particular venue seeks to project along the spectrum of “chill” to “relaxed” to “buzzing” to “all the way turnt up.”
Music volume. A Lounge tends towards music of softer volume – a live music performance is not uncommon – that promotes a relaxed atmosphere and facilitates conversation among guests. An Ultra Lounge, on the other hand, typically pumps higher volume dance-friendly tunes – often provided by a live DJ – that encourage moving and grooving.
Layout. With its ubiquitous red and gold interior decor – lucky colors particularly to the wealthy Asian clientele that often frequent its casino floor tables – the Wynn and Encore have always been one of the most luxurious properties on the Vegas strip. In recent years, they’ve traded in their elitist vibe – without sacrificing any of the luxury – for a more high-energy fashionista cool to target those aspirational Millennials of the aughts and teens that now have money to burn in 2020. The Eastside Lounge is on the Encore casino floor at the mouth of the well-traveled walkway between the Wynn and Encore properties; for that reason, its energy and vibe always ratchets up in the hours leading up to the start of the weekend.

The upscale ambiance of Eastside Lounge is relaxed – even sleepy – during the day and afternoon, with a view of the resort’s beautiful pool area accompanying expertly crafted cocktails, wine, beer, and spirits. Starting in the late afternoon, action picks up as expert mixologists spin up more complex drinks using fresh, seasonal, and novel ingredients while live entertainment (the lounge has a piano and singer setup) regales relaxed onlookers. 10. Centrifuge @ MGM Grand – $$ – South Strip

Hookah lounge by day, ultra lounge by night, Centrifuge at the MGM Grand Strip side entrance is a 77-seat circular bar surrounded by a second circular bank of small-table seating for smoking and socializing. The centerpiece of Centrifuge is a mesmerizing glow-in-the-dark installation that spins continuously while changing colors every so often, to the tune of live DJs spinning dance selections heavy on reggaeton and radio pop. To cater to the hordes of tourists traversing this central throughway, Centrifuge carries on their menu the specialty cocktails from each of MGM Grand’s signature restaurants, a well tasty fruit-infused cocktails like the Kentucky Peach (peach-infused Woodford Reserve Bourbon, peach nectar, fresh sour and ginger ale) and the Frida (strawberry pineapple-infused Patron tequila, lime and citronage).

Similar to Encore’s Eastside Lounge mentioned above, Centrifuge is quiet when the sun is up and anything but when the sun goes down… and for the exact same reason: location, location, location. The usually monstrous lines for Hakkasan Nightclub less than 50 feet away can be conveniently eyeballed from the Centrifuge bar area, which makes this lounge the optimal pre-game / rendezvous point prior to entering Hakkasan not to mention the first spot for one more drink (or eight) upon leaving the cavernous nightclub. This unavoidable crowd spillover into Centrifuge, along with its record-shaped layout allowing the bar to be accessed from all sides, makes it a most ideal drinking, people-watching and people-meeting venue.

Where do large groups stay in Vegas – get discounted hotel rates

They say a stitch in time saves nine, and the pre-arrival planning is the part of the process that requires THE MOST attention to detail.

Remember the 100-Day Rule: to take advantage of favorable pricing for flights, hotels, shows, nightclubs, and anything else related to Vegas that requires tickets or reservations, you MUST start planning the festivities no less than 3-4 months in advance of your planned arrival date.
The larger the group, the more advance planning is required to ensure “convenient inventory” on hand – by that, we mean things like seats on the same flight or hotel room blocks in the same resort and perhaps (fingers crossed) even in the same resort tower or on the same floor.
If your large group is around 100 guests or so, then 100 days – 4 months – out is the latest we would recommend to lock in reservations.
For a 200-500 person group we would recommend at least 6 months of lead time; for any group above 500 persons, we strongly advise you to make your initial reservation inquiries 12-18 months in advance.
The earlier you start looking into things, the more options and wiggle room your suppliers in Vegas have, and thus the more willing they are to work with you to provide custom solutions and group discount rates.

Everything about the venue screams “Touristy!” and yes, they purposely cater to the thousands of out-of-towners they see daily. Deep in the heart of Tex… – ahem, Vegas – is another rodeo-themed gem of a drinking post. Located on the highly trafficked Strip side of Planet Hollywood’s famed Miracle Mile Shops, PBR Rock Bar & Grill is a Professional Bull Riders affiliated mega-venue that truly epitomizes the phrase “a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll.” Rock Bar is a sprawling, modern, 16,800 square-foot backyard barbecue featuring two DJ booths, hundreds of big screen TVs lining the bar, and a massive hydraulic mechanical bull at its center, mounted and ridden in constant rotation by buxom staff and ballsy tourists.

The kitchen staff at PBR puts in big work with big plates and big flavors that truly capture the taste of the American Heartland: Chicken & Waffles, Smoked Brisket, BBQ Pork Ribs, and even secret recipes such as the famed Dorito Mac & Cheese. But as good as the food is here, it decidedly takes a backseat to the dranks. Rock Bar’s most memorable feature is its expansive outdoor drinking patio – cooling mist in the summer, heat lamps in the winter – that spills out onto the most coveted and most highly traversed real estate on Las Vegas Boulevard. 8. Beer Park @ Paris – $$ – Center Strip

So much for creative naming. Beer Park is designed with the goal of giving tourists a no-frills slice of Americana, but with all the frills of Vegas, baby, Vegas. The open-air entertainment venue, of which American mega-brand Anheuser-Busch is a strategic investor, puts forth a nostalgia-inducing atmosphere that mixes the feel of a classic baseball stadium with the communal charm of a suburbia park with all of the glorious food and drink favorites each has to offer. Similar to the Vegas Strip itself, this brand-new space was designed to bring people from all over the world together.

Inside Beer Park there is a 10,000-square-foot upscale “living room” foyer with parlor-style furniture seating arranged in circles to encourage meeting new people; outside there are Oktoberfest-style communal picnic tables for communal drinking and a grassy lawn to challenge strangers in friendly classic bar games like giant Jenga, Skee-Ball, Pop-A-Shot, darts, and billiards. But on top of all of these perks, Beer Park totally understands – and focuses on – sports as the great global unifier: it is one of just a few spots in Las Vegas to offer onsite wagering outside of a sportsbook, and gargantuan towers on each side of the main bar display multiple high-definition televisions that are ideal for watching the biggest sports matches of the day whether you’re a longtime die-hard or a new “fan” holding a $20 wager in hand.

9. Nine Fine Irishmen @ MGM Grand – $ – South Strip

One of the city’s best Irish pubs, Nine Fine Irishmen was designed and built by Ireland’s top craftsmen and shipped piece by piece to Las Vegas. 9Fine brings the charms of the Emerald Isle to Las Vegas in other ways as well: food, spirits, camaraderie, and of course music. Your favorite Irish dishes – the ones you wolf down only on St. Patrick’s Day – are on the lunch and dinner menu perennially; an impressive variety of Irish beers and drinks will allow you expand your horizons past Guinness and Jameson. Happy Hour runs from Monday-Friday from 2-5 pm; While the restaurant closes at 11pm, the bar stays open until 3am (which makes it the most convenient pre-game / rendezvous point for groups headed to nearby Hakkasan Nightclub).

Once the alcohol starts flowing at Nine Fine Irishmen, the live music entertainment takes the stage to keep the crowd’s toes tapping. In particular, the energy reaches crescendo levels in the evening around 9:30-10pm, when the house band bangs out a mix of traditional Irish music, wild electric jigs and reels, and classic sing-along songs. Granted, the atmosphere here can get a bit rowdy and dodgy, especially during big soccer matches when 9Fine takes on the feel and atomsphere of an edgy Euro-style sports pub. That being said, getting tipsy and creating your own live performances by singing amateur karaoke at the top of your lungs is strongly encouraged here. Now one of the oldest four-star-and-up properties on the Strip, Venetian has aged gracefully: it’s every bit as fetching, well-maintained, and fun-loving as a botox-blessed Italian cougar. Grandeur and opulence inspired by the charming canals of the great city of Venice (duh!) is the overriding aesthetic, from grand white marble columns to blue-hued painted cloud ceilings to the trademark canal that winds through the Shops at Venetian, complete with singing gondoliers and hawking merchants. The youngest sibling in the Caesars family – and perhaps the one with the most spunk – the Linq was renovated, rebranded, and relaunched in 2014 with an emphasis on targeting fresh-faced Millennials. As a result, the rooms are very modern, contemporary, and ultra-clean and the casino floor still has a bit of that “new car” smell and look. The “affordable luxury at its finest” extends to the fabulously comfortable rooms; there are also room options for a crowd that have two queen beds and an extra lofted bunk, which is good if you’re hoping to make new friends or one of your crew decides to join the Vegas jaunt last-minute. On-site luxurious spa treatments and hangover IV services are great perks; there are also in-room fitness carts stocked with yoga mats and foam rollers available to guests free of charge. Formerly the SLS Casino, this resort is under new ownership and relaunches as the Sahara in early 2020 (funny enough, it had been called the Sahara for decades prior to SLS taking over). Once again, the property has been fully gutted and carefully remodeled to make way for a hip, modern, luxury-oozing hotel halfway between Downtown and center Strip. Discerning guests will opt for a room in ultra-posh the all-suite Lux Tower with its French motifs and exclusive in-room dining menu. For regular guests, one of the 1,500-plus Philippe Starck-designed standard rooms with numerous artistic touches will suit them just fine. The casino floor eatures a 50,000-square-foot casino floor with 600 slot machines and 60 table games, as well as a visually arresting giant LED cube in the ceiling and some of the most underrated mid-level dining options in all of Vegas (Northside Cafe is one of our personal favorites).

9) Mandalay Bay – $$$$ – South Strip

The giant Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is every bit as luxurious as the other resorts on this list, it just no longer exudes that “exclusive” feel as do many of the others. It offers a ton of family-friendly amenities (wave pool, streaming lazy river pool, shark reef aquarium, kid-friendly eateries), and that mainstream appeal is what brings constant crowds and long lines especially in the summer. Add in intermittent air traffic noise (it’s across from McCarran) and inconveniently long rides to center or south Strip locations, and the venue can take on the feel of Disneyland instead of Sin City. Which is fine if you’re with young ones and don’t want to (or can’t) stray too far from home base: all of the hotel’s 3,209 rooms underwent renovations in 2016 with TVs, minibars, bathrooms with separate tubs and showers, and ultra-comfy beds, so why not “staycation” and lord over your temporary castle?

10) Park MGM Hotel – $$$ – South Strip

Formerly the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, the upscale Park MGM Las Vegas opened in 2018 after a multimillion-dollar renovation, providing a casual and cool atmosphere catering to younger travelers (mid-twenties to early-thirties). The rooms and pool are slightly above average but so new that you’ll be happy with them; the true stars of this resort are the restaurant offerings. The goal from the get-go was for Park MGM to be a foodie haven, and with ultra-hip(ster) offerings such as Eataly and Roy Choi’s Best Friend that box has been checked. The speakeasy and nightclub On the Record – the upscale brainchild of LA-based Houston Hospitality, one of the most successful nightlife brands in Hollywood – blasts 80s, 90s, and 2000s hip-hop and is packed nightly with nostalgic millennials (and older millennial wannabes) from open to close (also check out more Vegas hip hop night clubs here). On top of that, you can go gaga for Lady Gaga, turn back time with Cher, or kick off your golden night watching NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights (next door at T-Mobile Arena). Snoop’s debut album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre, was released in 1993 by Death Row Records. Bolstered by excitement driven by Snoop’s featuring on The Chronic, the album debuted at number one on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
