EDC To Return to Las Vegas in May 2021

Insomniac founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella has confirmed that EDC Las Vegas will move forward with its planned May 2021 dates.

Sharing a number of cryptic countdown videos that were tantamount to torture for EDC fans, Rotella eventually announced the news in a triumphant Instagram post.

“Electric Daisy Carnival is finally on the horizon. There were times during the pandemic when many of us lost hope,” Rotella wrote. “We were challenged to learn & listen to our hearts & trust that the storm would eventually pass, making way for a bright & sunny future for those in our community & around the world.”

“With the world being shutdown for over a year, I’m happy to announce we’re on our way to being able to celebrate in person,” he continued. “Book your flights, hotels & shuttles — EDC Las Vegas is on for May 21+22+23!”

The news arrives after a tumultuous 24 hours for the festival, which the promoter expects to attract 200,000 people over the course of its three days, May 21-23.

After Live Nation posted a slew of EDC Las Vegas-specific job listings including the phrase, “Travel required in May,” many fans believed they had the smoking gun they needed to start planning for spring. Those plans were then marred by the news that the Nevada Department of Business and Industry went on to reject Insomniac’s robust safety plan.

However, it now seems the company was able to submit a revised proposal and secure the approval of state officials. “We are moving forward as planned & will be working closely with local & state officials to make the show as safe as possible,” Rotella’s statement continued, also noting that fans “can expect the full EDC experience with no details spared.”

The scope of the festival’s COVID-19 plan is not yet publicly known, but Rotella’s post says that more details on safety protocols and the lineup “will be shared soon.”

Insomniac’s initial proposal noted that the 2021 edition of EDC Las Vegas “will not rely on social distancing as its method for health safety.” In lieu of social distancing, attendees and staff members would either have to be vaccinated or able to produce a negative COVID-19 test onsite.

The preliminary proposal also revealed that organizers are also considering the deployment of COVID-19 scent detection canines, pending the results of ongoing studies of their effectiveness. If deemed effective, Insomniac is planning to place the dogs at all of the entrances of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to search attendees. However, it’s important to note that the revised proposal may look vastly different.

Festive Owl, who claims to have spoken with “verified sources,” reports that if the festival’s capacity is reduced to 50% to adhere to Nevada’s COVID-19 ordinance, EDC Las Vegas “will be split over two weekends.” However, we don’t currently have any info on the capacity limits or whether there will be an additional weekend.

EDC 2020 Cancelled

Electric Daisy Carnival, one of the world’s largest annual dance festivals, has abandoned plans to try and reschedule the 150,000-person-per-day festival held at the Las Vegas Speedway to October.

Originally scheduled for May 15-17, the festival created by Insomniac Founder Pasquale Rotella with a 2020 lineup featuring more than 200 artists, including Chainsmokers, DJ Snake, David Guetta and Major Lazer was first postponed in April and given a new October 2-4 date.

On Sunday (Aug. 2), Rotella announced on Instagram that the festival was being moved again, this time to May 21-23, effectively ending any prospects that the 2020 festival would return.
“The team & I have spent the last several months working to create a plan that would allow us to produce a safe event for you,” Rotella wrote. “We wanted to implement a free two-step testing program, one test at home before traveling to Las Vegas & another test at the venue when you arrived, in addition to many other enhanced safety protocols. Unfortunately, we just learned that the medical advances necessary to pull this off will not be ready in time, which is why I’m making this announcement today.”

The spread of the coronavirus and the devastating toll COVID-19 has taken on countries around the world has led to a complete shutdown of the live entertainment business, leading to billions in expected losses for companies such as Live Nation, which owns Insomniac. Most promoters now say the touring business won’t resume until the majority of the population has been vaccinated.

@EDC_LasVegas UPDATE: I know you’ve been waiting a long time & I want to THANK YOU for being so patient. Some have questioned why we haven’t postponed yet & I want to let you know what we’ve been up to. The team & I have spent the last several months working to create a plan that would allow us to produce a safe event for you. We wanted to implement a free two-step testing program, one test at home before traveling to Las Vegas & another test at the venue when you arrived, in addition to many other enhanced safety protocols. Unfortunately, we just learned that the medical advances necessary to pull this off will not be ready in time, which is why I’m making this announcement today. Regardless, I’m proud of our team for continuing to believe & work so hard throughout the process. This whole experience has truly been a wild ride. Here I am, a rave promoter, finding myself talking to biopharmaceutical companies about diagnostic tests for a novel virus while working with Nevada’s most prominent government officials. I’ve felt a lot of pressure wanting to come through for all of you & after taking time to exhaust every possible option, I can feel confident knowing this is the right decision. We are officially postponing EDC Las Vegas 2020 & will be returning May 21+22+23 of 2021 to celebrate 25 years of EDC. To everyone who chose to hang onto their ticket & stick with us during this time, THANK YOU! You’re the most amazing community I could ever hope to be a part of. It means the world to me. We would not be able to do any of this without your support. All 2020 passes, including Camp EDC & shuttles, will be honored for the new 2021 dates & will automatically transfer over. For those who would like a refund, go to edclasvegas.com/verify. Because some of you won’t be able to make the rescheduled dates, any tickets for EDC Las Vegas 2021 that become available will go back on sale Thursday, August 6 at 10am PT. Insomniac has been built on never giving up. We’re already working hard on next year’s show & we’ll be back with more energy than ever for our 25 Year Celebration. Until then— Peace, Love, Stay Positive & I’ll See You Under the Electric Sky!💜✨

At the place where music, technology, and art converge, you’ll find Intersect, a new kind of festival coming to Las Vegas. Presented by AWS, the most broadly adopted cloud platform, and produced by Production Club, the team behind some of music’s most state-of-the-art live experiences, Intersect was born out of the massive after party for AWS’s annual re:Invent conference, held in Vegas since 2012, with over 25,000 guests last year alone. Now open to the public for the first time ever, the festival offers an inspiring two-day journey to culture and tech’s leading edge.

Exodus Las Vegas

Days: 5
Location: Las Vegas Clubs & Pool Parties
When: May through Sept
Music: Electronic

Exodus Festival is an electronic music “festival” in Las Vegas. It’s not quite a traditional festival – instead of being centralized in one location, the festival is spread out throughout the city’s casinos and clubs. Buying a ticket gives you access to a bunch of different clubs and shows.

Started in 2010, Exodus Festival has been putting on all out parties throughout Sin City. Heading into season 11 this year, the festival is hosting four long weekends of partying.

Kicking things off for Memorial Day and having their final blow out over Labor Day, Exodus features big house EDM beats at pool parties and club nights, gathering music lovers in the party capital of the world.

Day N Vegas Festival

Days: 3
Location: Las Vegas Festival Grounds
When: November
Music: Hip Hop

Day N Vegas is a hip hop music festival in Los Vegas, Nevada. Even as hip hop culture has taken over the world, festivals have been a little slow catching up. But that’s obviously changing.

Breaking onto the scene with a bang in its inaugural edition in 2019, Day N Vegas curated a deep lineup which was basically a who’s who list of hip hop’s new school.

There’s only one place appropriate for such a massive party and that’s the City of Lights. Understanding this, the festival is set to take over the Las Vegas Festival Grounds for the first three days of November.

EDC takes place at the Las Vegas motorway, which is about 30 minutes away from the strip without traffic. Keep in mind that over 100k people head to EDC, so if you are travelling during peak hours, it can take anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours depending on traffic.
