San Francisco’s Mezzanine nightclub operates in that unique little niche between live music venue and nightclub. Spread out over 12,000 feet with a nearly 1,000-person capacity dance floor, Mezzanine plays host to a wide variety of live music and DJ performances.
Housed in an historic two-story warehouse, with high ceilings and large skylights, the main floor features three bars, a rectangular dance floor, overlooked by two separate mezzanine areas, each with their own bar. Seating on the ground floor is minimal at best, and the mezzanines are often VIP only, so if you don’t have a table, wear comfortable shoes. There’s also an indoor/outdoor smoking lounge for those who want to step out. The décor on the main floor is minimal industrial, with exposed concrete walls and plenty of unobstructed views. The Mezzanines are reasonably upscale, but not extravagant. Leather couches, velvet ottomans, polished hardwood tables, and animal prints abound.
One very important detail management didn’t skip on? The sound system: an audiophile’s delight, a Funktion One. Which is a good thing since the list of superstar DJ types who have played here is impressive: Fat Boy Slim, Tiesto, Sasha, Digweed, Victor Calderone, Chemical Brothers, Thievery Corporation, The Crystal Method, Derrick Carter, 2ManyDJs, Miss Kittin, DJ Krush, and Ritchie Hawtin, among a long list of others.
- Bathrooms are huge, so there are no lines.
- Acoustics are top notch, highly recommended.
- Large venue, so even with a big crowd there was enough room.
- Upstairs area with a lot of extra room and views of the stage.
- 3 bars to choose from.
- This is more of a show / concert venue than a nightclub.
