Circus Tokyo opened in October 2015. It is Shibuya’s successor to Osaka’s Club Circus, known for attracting serious music fans. It houses events with a variety of styles, but keeps at its heart the deep underground elements that have been polished over the generations to make good dance music.
Circus is a little ways away from the heart of Shibuya’s club area, but from Osaka it brings with it an unbeatable lineup of artists which draws a lot of interest from serious music lovers, and one-time visitors quickly turn into regulars.
The entrance is flanked by a wall of several dozen lockers, covered in advertisements for Circus events. Walk past the lockers on your right and through the large door to get inside. The first floor hosts a bar lounge, and the underground floor is Circus’ main dance floor. The ceiling is surprisingly high for an underground club, and it makes the dance floor feel open and spacious. A simple bar is also available where you can get drinks, but if you should find it too crowded for your liking, vending machines with alcohol are available in the stairwell leading to the underground floor; the ultimate convenience!
On weekdays the first floor bar lounge is the main attraction, but it’s still a fantastic place to enjoy great music with a few drinks. One would expect nothing less from Circus.
- Nightclub with DJs playing dance music with deep underground elements including house, techno, EDM, trap and progressive.
- Excellent sound system and acoustics
- Bar on ground floor and main room in basement
