Ibiza to Reopen to Tourism by June 2021

Ibiza will be able to “reopen safely” as of June, Spain’s tourism minister says.

Back in March, the Spanish government announced that a vaccine passport to allow tourists to enter Spain — including Ibiza and the rest of the Balearic Islands — would be operational by June. Now, Spain’s general secretary of Digital Health, Information and Innovation has announced that recently-developed COVID-19 passports — officially recognised as Digital Green Certificates — will allow EU residents to enter the country without coronavirus testing or quarantine

The certificate, which is presented as a digital QR code, is expected to be operational by June and will advise on the holder’s immunity status – ie. vaccinated, recently tested negative, or recently recovered.

Following the announcement, Spain’s tourism minister, Reyes Maroto, said in a press conference that the certificates would allow Spain to “reopen safely” and be “pioneers” in global tourism following the coronavirus pandemic, as well as providing “safe mobility” for tourists.

Tourism is one of the most crucial industries in Spain, especially in nightclub hotspot Ibiza. Spain welcomes approximately 80 millions tourists a year, with the industry providing over 12% of the country’s GDP.

Earlier this year, Ibiza club Amnesia announced its closing party for the 2021 season, set to take place on 23rd October. Amnesia is the first Ibiza superclub to confirm that it plans to host events this year, and has opted to announce its season of parties in reverse order as a precautionary measure. The club said in an official announcement that it is “presenting the end but leaving the start open”.

The world’s best-known party island, Ibiza has been heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Frequent restriction changes, extortionate fines and bans on dancing, parties and smoking have affected the music and hospitality industries hugely. But while it’s hit locals hard, the pause in summer season has also given time for a reset and for the White Isle to regenerate.

Ibiza Nightlife Planning Return in 2021

Ibiza is slowly but surely returning to normal, with strong efforts to restore tourism to the embattled island. The Leisure Association of Ibiza recently requested that the Balearic government allow for the reopening of clubs starting in June.

What’s Been Happening?

Ibiza wants to be the first place in Europe to welcome visitors with a vaccine passport.

We previously reported that Spain is working with the EU on a vaccine passport but now the country has announced that it will run its own vaccine passport pilot scheme, which has full support from local authorities in Ibiza, as well as the rest of Balearics, who are raring to welcome tourists this summer.

The goal is to implement all necessary measures in compliance with the authorities to ensure security and confidence among staff and clientele. What exactly does the protocol entail? All customers must be vaccinated and have a digital green certificate stating their vaccination status. They must also report if they had COVID-19. If they don’t have a Digital Green Pass, they need to have a negative PCR performed within the last 72 hours. These are requirements for enclosed space entry at nightclubs and indoor venues.

Current Status of Coronavirus in Ibiza

The Govern Balear has just announced new measures to start relaxing the restrictions.

Furthermore, the vaccination programme is moving along quite nicely now, and, from Monday, the age group 45 to 55 are next in line for their jabs. The local health authority’s plan to have 70% of the island’s residents vaccinated by the end of May looks like a very real prospect.

The new regulation changes are relatively small and will continue, through Easter, until 11 April, to try to deter much population movement over that holiday period. But we can be thankful for any positive changes right now.

Ibiza is moving back to Level 3 (high risk) of the Govern’s recovery plan, while Formentera drops to Level 2 (medium risk), for the time being. The great news is that we are also now free to travel between the islands once again, as the sealed perimeter has also been lifted.

  • Bars and restaurants can reopen 50% of their outside terraces, but have to close by 17:00. There can’t be more than 4 persons per table, from max. 2 households.
  • The night-time curfew remains from 22:00 to 06:00.
  • Shop capacity will rise from 30 to 50% interior space and must close by 20:00.
  • Gymnasiums and indoor swimming pools can reopen, with strict limits on capacity.
  • Outdoor non-contact sports, with up to 10 participants, can resume.
  • Social gatherings, of up to 6 persons from 2 households, inside or out, are allowed to resume. IMPORTANT UPDATE: From March 26 to April 11, both dates included, no meetings of any kind will be allowed inside homes, beyond the members of the household.

The mask mandate remains in force at this time.

Despite being overwhelmed by feelings of fear and uncertainty at this time last year, as the invisible wave approached, Ibiza and Formentera managed to enjoy a brief holiday season. This year already promises to be very different. Whereas it might not get going properly until June, we anticipate that by the beginning of that month the virus will be practically eradicated from the island once again, and most businesses will be reopened.

While we enjoy the different pace of this summer, Hï Ibiza dropped some awesome news for Ibiza 2021. Get ready for this. On top of returning residencies Afterlife, Black Coffee, F*** Me I’m Famous! and Glitterbox, new residents The Martinez Brothers and FISHER join the party.

Each residency will create its own unique immersive dance experience. As always, the soundtrack goes to some of the biggest international DJs on the scene. Add to that, Hï Ibiza‘s futuristic sound system and you have an experience like no other.

In the words of Yann Pissenem, founder, owner and CEO of The Night League and Hï Ibiza, “We are more determined than ever to make 2021 our best season yet, starting by announcing the craziest line up that Hï Ibiza has ever had. Ibiza 2021 – let’s go!”

We’re in. Here’s the plan:

TUESDAYS – THE MARTINEZ BROTHERS

Directly from New York, The Martinez Brothers snatch up their first headline residency at Hï Ibiza. From their start in the underground electronic music scene of the Bronx, the DJing brothers have quickly turned into house and techno royalty.

Here is what they have to say about it: “2021 will be a new chapter for the world, for the island and for ourselves personally. We are excited to be turning that page with Hï Ibiza. We know it’s going to be something very special.”

As island-favourites, The Martinez Brothers residency is set to be one of the hottest nights on the island. The duo will be joined by the most exciting names in dance music.

WEDNESDAYS – FISHER

From 16 June to 29 September 2021, the smashing FISHER picks up his own headline residency. The Australian DJ-producer made an impressive debut last summer with his massive energy and enthusiasm.

Next season will see even more world-class while he takes over the Theatre on Wednesdays, or as he put it, “Absolutely FROTHING to be cranking the vibes at Hï Ibiza next summer. Gonna be like a monkey on a banana going Fkn MAD!”

THURSDAYS – AFTERLIFE ft TALE OF US

From 24 June to 30 September, world-famous DJ and production duo Tale Of Us return with their party series Afterlife for what’s set to be a massive third season.

Once again, the party will feature an impeccable line-up with the most forward-thinking and recognised names in underground music, as well as mesmerizing soundscapes and lush rhythms designed for the senses.

Tale Of Us have said it themselves, “Hï Ibiza is an amazing home for our Afterlife Ibiza parties, where we create an immersive, audio-visual experience and invite a wide range of artists we love. The moment we stepped into the club each week of past seasons, we felt the energy from the unique crowd. We can’t wait to share fifteen special Thursdays with you all again. See you in 2021!”

FRIDAYS – F*** ME I’M FAMOUS! Ft DAVID GUETTA

From 28 May to 1 October, Monsieur Guetta’s world-favourite F*** Me I’m Famous! is back for an incredible second season. The party is famous for its astounding production, fierce dancers, feel-good atmosphere, unrivalled VIP glamour, and of course the world’s biggest DJs in the booth each week.

As usual, David Guetta will be bringing a FOMO-inducing list of the most talked-about names in electronic music to join him each week, so stay tuned for more announcements.

“Our first season of F*** Me I’m Famous! at Hï Ibiza last summer was off the scale! The energy, the vibe and the atmosphere in our new home exceeded my wildest expectations so I can’t wait to get back there next summer to party with everyone. We’ve got lots of surprises in store and a whole host of incredible DJs joining me each week as always! ”

SATURDAYS – BLACK COFFEE

Black Coffee picks up his Saturday night spot once again from 15 May to 2 October. Having been a part of the Hï Ibiza family from day one, the South African star has been instrumental in shaping the club’s success, contributing some of the most stand-out moments.

Black Coffee is synonymous with cutting edge and forward-thinking curation. On a visual level, expect a complete immersion in the tribal sophistication and spiritual splendour.

In his own words, “Unreal to be going on to our fourth season at home base, Hï Ibiza. So thankful to be a part of the growing success on the island and to be surrounded by the best artists and team in the world!”

SUNDAYS – GLITTERBOX

An absolute favourite for all ages, Glitterbox will also return for a fantastic fourth season from 16 May to 3 October. The long-standing and much-loved residency brings the world’s most respected DJs and emerging talents, showcasing pure dance music, to move your mind, body and soul.

Expect intoxicating dancers, jaw-dropping performers and drag queens – the heroes of the Justice League Of Disco – for more unforgettable moments on the dance floor.

Head honcho Simon Dunmore puts it this way: “We are extremely excited to return to Hï Ibiza in 2021. We believe people’s appetite to party is going to be at an all-time high due to the current world climate; we have progressed our line-up and Hï Ibiza have made some small but telling changes to the structure of the club, so it all bodes well for another amazing season.”

There you have it. Obviously, Hï Ibiza is determined to make up for this year by making next summer its biggest season yet. Next summer, will be a celebration of life, a season to reconnect and rekindle the dance floor with regenerative energy.

Stay tuned. More info coming soon.

What’s Open in Ibiza Nightlife Summer 2020

Whilst this season may not be your traditional Ibiza clubbing season, the island is bouncing back with another type of daytime and nighttime action, alternative events, lots of amazing boat-trips, some lounge pool parties and quite a bit more. The beach clubs are buzzing, too.

You will get to experience the island like never before, except possibly back in the ’70s and ’80s when it was still a well-kept secret. Read on to find out what regulations have been put in place to adapt to these exceptional times.

Most of the super-clubs have announced they will not be opening this year, but plenty of beach clubs, beach bars and poolside events, such as Ibiza Rocks, Nikki Beach, Blue Marlin Ibiza and O Beach, as well as a couple of boat excursions, are on this summer.

Whilst masks are now mandatory almost everywhere on the island, sun loungers and swimming pools are exempt as long as safety distance can be maintained. Remember, though, that you must book a bed in advance to gain access.

You will get to experience these venues and bars like never before. Of course, we know it’s an amazing experience to be dancing together with thousands of like-minded people, but you will no doubt relish the extra space and attention this year. Sit back, relax and chat the day away whilst sipping ice-cold cocktails under the blazing sun, to a chilled soundtrack of Balearic beats.

With most of the super-clubs being off-limits this year, bars – both at the beach and in town – and restaurants on the island have been adapting to entertain the eager tourists. Many of the bars on the world-famous Sunset Strip in San Antonio and in the port of Ibiza await you.

Curfews are currently in place, with bars and restaurants staying open until 2:00.

Venues like Bambuddha, Beachouse, Kumharas, Lío, Nassau Beach Club, Las Dalias, Nobu, STK and Pikes, have all adapted to make your day or evening extra special.

This year you will experience a different kind of Ibiza from the one you might be used to. Imagine the chilled vibes of April or October and then combine that with the gorgeous sun and warm seas of high summer.

Imagine finally taking that cruise to Formentera, hiring a quad and discovering the untouched North or getting up for a sunrise swim in the crystal clear waters of Las Salinas beach. Imagine realising there is actually a great deal more to the island than the super-clubs.

The super-clubs are often the reason why we came to Ibiza. The rest is why we stayed.

Clubbing and partying and dancing will be back. We can’t wait, and we know you can’t, too. In the meantime, come and spend some time here this summer to discover the real magic of Ibiza.

O Beach & Ibiza Rocks Reopening for 2020 Summer Season

Excellent news emerging from San Antonio this morning, now that tourism has officially been given the green light to recommence. The town’s favourite open-air party venues, O Beach and Ibiza Rocks Hotel, have simultaneously announced they are reopening on 1 July. Both venues promise a return to their unique poolside atmosphere, but with a slightly more laid-back soundtrack for summer 2020 provided by their superb resident DJs.

Obviously, there have been changes forced upon the original entertainment line-ups, which are still yet to be fully finalised, and strict social distancing measures mean that reservations will be made for table parties only. We will update with more information about the replacement parties and how to book them, as soon as we have it.

One thing is for certain, San Antonio will still be offering the best pool parties on the island. Now, if PikesAmnesia and Zoo Project were to follow suit, this could be shape up to make San An THE place to be for a fantastic summer in 2020!

Pacha Ibiza Closed for 2020 Due to Coronavirus

Pacha Group has today confirmed that Pacha Ibiza does not intend to open for the remainder of 2020.

CEO Nick McGabe announced that his team had made the “painful and difficult” decision, based on the recent guidelines issued by the Balearic government.

Nick continued, “we will follow the recommendations of the administration in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of employees and customers.”

This marks the first time in its celebrated 52-year history that the venue will stay shut for summer.

Pacha now joins Privilege and TNL’s venues Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza in cancelling their season. This does not affect the company’s other businesses on the island, Destino Pacha Resort (only the hotel, there will be no clubbing events) and Lío (with no dancefloor), which are both scheduled to open in July.

Amnesia

The busy dance floor at ELEVEN Miami
Forget your worries and dance the night away

Known currently as the “temple of music”, Amnesia’s history begins with a young philosopher Antonio Eschotado who signed a lease for the venue in the mid 1970’s. He named the premises “El Taller de los Olvidadizo,” or the “The Workshop of Forgetfulness” in English. At his night club Escohotado aimed to create a space where people would be able to come to his disco to enjoy themselves leaving all their worries behind, and temporarily escaping from normal life. He later renamed it to the Greek word ‘Amnesia’ as he believed that this word captured everything he wanted and more from his idea – and so the club was born.

At Amnesia, located in the village of San Rafeal in Ibiza, guests can party at two massive rooms – the Club Room, a dark cavernous space, and the Terrace, an expansive arena with a glass roof that is flooded with light when the sun rises. Both rooms are guarded by the notorious Amnesia ice cannons that could strike at any time. Amnesia covers the best of techno, house, bass, Latin and even some live shows. Guests can dance on the club’s famous hallowed dance floors which can get extremely busy and are famed for incredible communal moments with every hand in the air. Best Ibiza Boat Parties

Boat parties have become an important pillar of the Ibiza clubbing scene and no Ibiza holiday is complete without having experienced at least one party out at sea. Over the past few years, the boat party market has risen considerably and each brand presents their own concept, music genre and route.

The boat party companies typically sail from both San Antonio and Playa d’en Bossa. Pick your favorite boat, book your ticket and enjoy a day out on the Med. Dancing to the biggest tunes in the sunshine, looking out to sea and the gorgeous Ibiza coastline with beautiful people everywhere around you – can a party get any better than this? Oh yes, in fact it can: some of the boats (mainly the San Antonio departures) sail around sunset so tick the “sunset on a boat” box as well.

Most of the Ibiza boat party companies include at least one free drink aboard and the bar is always reasonably priced. Some boats even run a free bar policy.

And the experience doesn’t just start and end with the actual excursion on the boat; most brands include entry to one or more club nights with each ticket, so make sure you read the detailed information well.

The best boat parties in Ibiza are:

  • The IBZ Boat Party – Daily
  • Cirque De La Nuit – Wed, Fri, Sun
  • Oceanbeat Ibiza Boat Party – Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat
  • Pukka Up Boat Parties – Tues, Thurs, Sat
  • Lost in Ibiza – Wed
  • Float Your Boat Ibiza – Mon – Tues, Sat
