H.Wood Group’s Poppy Nightclub Grand Opening this Thursday

Thursdays at Poppy’s is about to be a thing.

Taking over the former STK space on La Cienega, H.Wood Group is giving L.A. a new club — think of it as a Bootsy Bellows 2.0.

“We all grew up here and see the trends,” says L.A. native John Terzian, who co-owns H.Wood Group with Brian Toll. “Even though there are other great clubs in L.A., there’s a need to get to the next level of decor and design.”

A-listers Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Elon Musk, Jessica Alba, as well as young Hollywood Hadids, Kardashians and Jenners, and music royalty Justin Beiber, Kanye West, French Montana and Drake are already fans of their existing six venues throughout the city.

What makes Poppy stand out from the rest? “The concept is like a stream of consciousness in a dream sequence,” inspired by a fashion billboard, says Terzian, noting that fashion designer Alessandro Michele’s rich Gucci wonderland of flora and fauna was an inspiration.

“It’s a fashion-oriented concept,” says designer John Sofio, who has worked with the group on their various projects. The space has a residential feel — as if you’re at a Hollywood house party in an old mansion, Terzian adds.

An atrium is filled with plants and the back wall covered in poppies — natch — with a (millennial) pink-and-white marble checkerboard floor. For the “library room,” Sofio and his team sourced 2,500 books arranged among collected vintage objects. There are ornate booths throughout the space– even a booth within the DJ booth. And the VIP bar off the side of the atrium has its own entrance.

Bottle service will be on demand, and delivered with fantastical Alice-in-Wonderland-esque add-ons: bottles disguised as swans, covered in roses and paper insects, or delivered via mermaid inside an oversized half shell.

On the subject of L.A. as the new nightlife mecca, Terzian says, “I may be biased, but it used to be in Europe, then New York and Miami, but I really think everyone has moved to L.A.”

Poppy officially opens Thursday, Aug. 24 and has already been booked for a private VIP party over the weekend: Jeremy Scott and UGG will host their collaboration kickoff with a star-studded soiree on Sunday night following the MTV VMAs with show host Katy Perry (a longtime H.Wood Group groupie), among others.

Henry’s in Weho to become Peppermint Club

Henry’s, the nightclub on Beverly Boulevard that was not-too-long ago named Hooray Henry’s before getting a fresh revamp and truncated name, has seen its last red velvet roped evening. The space will soon become Peppermint Club, a live music venue that is a partnership between Henry’s proprietors h.wood Group and Interscope Records, reports Wehoville.

It’s a pretty interesting departure for the location that has long been home to plenty of nightclubs in its day, from Hooray Henry’s to The Beverly to Guys & Dolls and to Guys before that. The idea is to have both up-and-coming and established artists perform in the intimate space for a completely unique experience.

And with the partnership of John Janick, Steve Berman, and John Ehmann of Interscope Records with John Terzian and Brian Toll of h.wood, responsible for such celebrity-riddled hot spots as The Nice Guy, Peppermint Club certainly seems like one to look out for.

Bootsy Bellows Reopening in WeHo June 16, 2015

After closing in early March for a quick winter facelift, West Hollywood’s ever-popular Bootsy Bellows has returned with a whole new look — and big plans for the future.

Though the overall atmosphere hasn’t changed much, with decor touches reminiscent of an upscale bachelor pad from the Rat Pack era, there’s actually a lot more to love inside. The Built-constructed lounge is draped in walnut and gold-framed glamour mirroring, with long wraparound golden banquettes and plenty of kitschy era-specific tidbits, from the lamps to the art on the walls.

On the back end, there’s also been an overhaul to the club’s infamous party aspect. The VIP room at Bootsy Bellows has long been legendary as a place for in-the-know partiers to experience a wider, more esoteric evening experience, complete with lots of live performances. The h.wood team is adding ongoing burlesque to the mix inside their new space, with even more crowd-pleasing options to come.

Bootsy Bellows is one of the centerpieces of the h.wood Group portfolio, which also includes properties like Blind Dragon across the street, and The Nice Guy and Henry’s, both nearby in West Hollywood. In June, mega-club-monsters Hakkasan Group took a controlling interest in the h.wood Group, and with that new influx of money and connections come plans for many more Bootsy Bellows around the world, each in a similar style. A Las Vegas stop is next (there’s already a Bootsy Bellows in Aspen) followed closely by Toronto.

Bootsy Bellows returns this Friday, with hours from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
